Safety notice

Please read this before you start talking to anyone on Vicinity.

Online Dating Safety Awareness

  • Anyone who is able to commit identity theft can also falsify a dating profile. Profiles on any dating service, including this one, may contain false information.
  • There is no substitute for acting with caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you.
  • Use caution when communicating with a stranger who wants to meet you.
  • Never include your last name, email address, home address, phone number, place of work, Social Security number or other identifying information in your profile or in your messages until you feel comfortable with the other person. Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information, or who tries in any way to trick you into revealing it.
  • You can block or report any member from their profile or from your conversation with them. Reports go to our moderation team.

Protecting Yourself from Sexual Assault and Dating Violence

  • Engaging in sexual conduct with another person without that person’s consent is a criminal act and is subject to criminal prosecution.
  • If you choose to meet another member in person, tell a family member or a friend where you are going and when you expect to return.
  • Never agree to be picked up at your home. Arrange your own transportation to and from the meeting, and meet in a public place with other people around.
  • If someone harms you, it is not your fault. Help is available. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233 and the National Sexual Assault Hotline is 1-800-656-4673, both free and available at any hour.

Protecting Yourself from Financial Crimes

  • Never send money to someone you have met on a dating service, especially by wire transfer, gift card or cryptocurrency, and especially if they tell you it is an emergency.
  • Never send your bank account, card or other financial information to another member.
  • Be wary of anyone who moves the conversation off the app quickly, avoids meeting or video calling, or introduces an investment or trading opportunity.
  • If you think you are being defrauded, stop sending money, keep your messages, and report the member to us.

What we check, and what we do not

VICINITY DOES NOT CONDUCT A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENING OR CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK ON EACH MEMBER.

We do not run criminal records searches on the people who join. Nothing about another member having an account here means they have been checked against any criminal, sex offender or court record.
