This policy sets out what you may and may not do on Vicinity. It forms part of our Terms of Service, and the same definitions apply. Breaking it can cost you your account.
Who this applies to
Everyone who uses Vicinity, on the web or in the mobile apps, whether or not they hold a paid membership.
You must be 18
Vicinity is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account. We close any account we believe belongs to someone under 18, and we do not restore it on appeal without proof of age.
What you may not do
Harm to people
- Harass, threaten, stalk, bully or abuse anyone.
- Post content that is violent, hateful, or that promotes self-harm.
- Share private information about another person, or share photos, videos or messages from another member outside the app without their permission.
- Impersonate another person, or use photos that are not of you.
Sexual content and exploitation
- Post sexual content involving a minor, or anything that sexualizes a minor, in any form. This is reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and to law enforcement.
- Post nudity or sexually explicit content, in profiles or in chat.
- Use Vicinity for commercial sex work, human trafficking or sexual exploitation.
- Aid, abet, encourage or facilitate the abuse or exploitation of any person, sexual or otherwise. This includes recruiting, advertising, soliciting, transporting or harboring a person for those purposes, arranging it on someone else's behalf, and directing anyone to content or services that do it.
- Commit, threaten, arrange, promote or glorify sexual violence. This includes rape and sexual assault, any sexual activity obtained by force, threat, coercion or deception, and drugging or otherwise incapacitating a person for a sexual purpose.
- Share, send, post or threaten to share an intimate or sexually explicit image or recording of a person without that person's consent. This applies whether or not the material was originally created with their consent, however it was obtained, and to synthetic or digitally altered material that depicts a real person. Threatening to share such material in order to obtain money, further images, sexual activity or anything else is prohibited, and is reported to law enforcement.
- Pressure, coerce or trick anyone into sending intimate images or into sexual activity, or continue after someone has said no.
- Use events to arrange sexual activity. Gatherings organized around sex, including group sex and partner swapping, are not allowed whether or not money changes hands.
Commercial abuse and spam
- Sell anything, advertise, run scams, or ask members for money.
- Send unsolicited promotional or commercial messages.
- Send the same or nearly the same message to many members, or send bulk, repetitive or chain messages.
- Send links to outside sites or paid content without being asked.
- Recruit members to another platform or service, or use likes and messages to drive traffic anywhere.
This applies to profiles as well as chat.
Illegal activity
- Use Vicinity to commit, plan or promote a crime, including the sale of illegal drugs, weapons or stolen goods.
- Upload content that you do not have the right to use.
Interfering with the service
- Try to work out another member's exact location.
- Scrape the service, break into it, or interfere with how it runs.
- Use bots or automated tools on the service.
- Create an event you do not have the right to hold or do not intend to hold.
How we enforce this
Photos and videos are screened automatically before they appear, and are checked against databases of known child sexual abuse material. Messages are screened for spam and abuse patterns. Members can report anyone from their profile or from a conversation, and can block anyone at any time.
Depending on what we find, we may remove content, warn you, restrict what your account can do, suspend it, or close it. Where the situation calls for it we act without notice. Serious cases are referred to law enforcement, and child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as federal law requires.
If we close your account for breaking this policy, you are not entitled to a refund.
Reporting a problem
Use the report option on a profile, a message or an event, which reaches our moderation team directly. You can also write to support@vicinity-social.com. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
Our Takedown and Content Removal Policy sets out how we handle each kind of request, how long we take, and how to ask us to remove an intimate image published without consent or content that infringes your copyright.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service changes or the law requires. Where a change matters to you, we will tell you before it takes effect.
