Dating Service Consumer Bill of Rights
Company: Vicinity Social, LLC Effective date: October 14, 2026 Address: 25852 McBean Parkway #831, Valencia, CA 91355 Cancellations: cancel@vicinity-social.com Support: support@vicinity-social.com
What a membership may cost, and how long it may run
New York limits a dating service contract to $1,000 and to two years. An online dating service is exempt from the price limit where its terms run a year or less at a reasonable price, which is how Vicinity sells: a monthly membership and a yearly one, each renewing until you cancel. Neither runs longer than a year at a time.
You cannot be made to buy anything else
We may not require you to buy another service, such as photography or coaching, as a condition of your membership. We do not sell any such service, and nothing is bundled into a membership.
Referrals, and what happens if we do not furnish any
Vicinity does not send you a set number of matches each month. You search and browse, which is why the monthly referral minimum does not apply to a service like ours.
If we fail to show you anybody at all for two months running, you may cancel and have your money back. The law would let us keep up to 15 per cent of what you paid, or a pro rata amount for referrals already furnished, whichever is greater. We do not keep anything. You get the full amount.
How far we will look
Vicinity is a proximity service and is offered across the United States, so no travel distance is fixed in your contract. You set your own search distance in the app, and we never show you anybody outside it.
If you move
Your membership moves with you anywhere in the United States. There is nothing to transfer and nothing to renegotiate: update your location in the app and Vicinity shows you people near where you now are. If you move outside the United States, write to us and we will cancel your membership and refund the unused part.
You may sue us
If we break this contract or the law that governs it, you may bring an action against us for damages, and for any other relief a court may give. Nothing in your contract with Vicinity takes that right away, shortens the time you have to use it, or sends it to arbitration in place of a court.
Putting your membership on hold
Separately from everything above, New York gives you the right to put your membership on hold for up to a year, without giving a reason. You can do it yourself in Settings under Membership. While it is on hold you are not charged, and your account works the way a free account does: you keep your profile, your photographs and your conversations, and you can browse and read. Everything comes back when the hold ends, and you can end it early at any time.
Cancelling in the first three days
You may cancel a new membership without any cancellation fee before midnight of the third business day after you receive your copy of the contract. The copy we email you when you join carries that notice and tells you how. All payments come back within ten business days of your notice reaching us.
