Dating in San Diego
San Diego splits cleanly into three worlds. Uptown — North Park, South Park, Hillcrest, University Heights — is where locals actually spend their evenings. Downtown is three separate districts that get treated as one. The beaches are a daytime proposition that most guides sell as a nightlife one.
None of the beach neighborhoods are walkable to each other, no trolley line serves North Park or Hillcrest, and the marine layer can hold overcast until mid-afternoon through May and June — which matters, because that is exactly when people plan sunset dates.
The best cheap-date engine in the city is also the least used: Balboa Park rotates free museum admission for county residents on Tuesdays, and the third Tuesday pairing of the San Diego Museum of Art and the Japanese Friendship Garden is as good as a free date gets anywhere.
